Our first garden

I might love the country, I might live in the country but this country girl has a lot to learn in the kitchen. Especially with gardening. We have our first garden this year. And while everyone is canning and freezing. I'm just excited, like the kids, to be seeing food grow. We've learned first off that it needs to double in size for next years garden. But to be able to go in the back yard and grab some peppers or zucchini, or like today, grab potatoes and tomatoes, just for a healthy supper. I'm in heaven! I love that my kids just grab a few green beans, wash them and snack on them throughout the day! I have frozen a few things. But next year its all about jams, freezing, salsa and whatever else I need to do :) Now back to reading, learning and being taught how to be the country girl that I always wanted to be.  WITH A GARDEN!!! :)

  1. I wouldn't worry about trying to do it all right next year. My goal is to add one or two new things every year. It would be way too overwhelming to do it all in one year. My goal this year is to instead of doing the normal 40-50 quart of applesauce all in one day, to do multiple days so I can do about 200 qts.
